“An adult hagfish can produce enough slime within q few minutes to turn a bucket of water into a gelatinous mess (martini 1998). This obnoxious behavior is apparently a deterrent to predators. When danger has passed, the hagfish makes a knot in its body and scrapes off the mass of mucus, then sneezed sharply to blow its nasal passage clear.”
